William Jackson Food Group

The Great Exhibition of 1851, housed in Hyde Park’s dazzling ‘Crystal Palace’ was in full swing when a young farmer’s son from Holderness in the East Riding of Yorkshire celebrated his marriage by opening a small grocers shop in Scale Lane, Hull. The young man’s name was William Jackson, and now a century and a half later, the business he founded still bears his name. William Jackson applied himself diligently to his business affairs and he went on to open many more branches in the city of Hull.

In 1888 a new branch at Spring Bank was opened in conjunction with William’s son George, and it was here that the company’s first bakery was established.

Our parent company is unusual in being a long-established family business, founded in 1851. Our present chairwoman, Sonya Eastaugh, is a sixth generation family member and the great, great, great granddaughter of our founder, William Jackson.
